Our Mission: Build Young Chess Champions
At Kingston Junior Chess, we believe a champion isn’t just someone who wins. It’s about growing in confidence, bouncing back after a tough game, and building thinking skills that last a lifetime. We’re here to help kids become smart, strategic thinkers through friendly coaching, fun tournaments, and a welcoming community right here in Kingston upon Thames.
We love chess, and now Kingston's junior club is bringing young players together.
We started Kingston Junior Chess because we believe every young player deserves great coaching in a warm, friendly space. Launching this September as part of the Jolly Good Chess academy, our club is designed to welcome everyone — from complete beginners figuring out how the pieces move, to sharp competitors already chasing their next trophy. Our weekly sessions blend expert instruction with real game practice, helping kids learn new strategies, build genuine confidence, and think a few steps ahead in chess and in life. Most importantly, it’s a place where friendships form naturally over the board, creating a supportive community that lasts far beyond the final checkmate.

Christopher Briscoe
We are delighted to have Candidate Master Chris Briscoe leading our training at the Kingston Junior Chess Club. As a key member of the Jolly Good Chess Academy, Chris brings a wealth of elite-level experience and a proven track record of nurturing young talent. Chris’s own journey—marked by years of competitive success at the British Championships and extensive league play—gives him a unique ability to bridge the gap between complex theory and practical, winning play. He has a remarkable talent for helping students achieve their potential, having guided players to the World U10 Championships and mentored many on their path toward the International Master title. What truly sets Chris apart is his coaching style. He is not just an expert strategist; he is a dedicated educator who makes the game accessible and deeply rewarding.
